FARRELL'S TOP FIVE LINEBACKERS
1. Reuben Foster, Alabama
2. Haason Reddick, Temple
3. Jarrad Davis, Florida
4. Raekwon McMillan, Ohio State
5. Tim Williams, Alabama
WHY FOSTER IS NO. 1
This is not a very good linebacker class and Foster is the best of the bunch, but I see a bit of a bust factor here. The slimmed-down, motivated Foster is an animal on the field and closes like a guided missile. But I wonder how focused he will remain once he gets that NFL money and I can see him either being a star or a massive bust. He’s by far the most talented linebacker of the group and his top end potential is excellent. Reddick is athletic and can make a ton of plays in the backfield but can be engulfed at times. Davis isn’t long but is good in coverage and has excellent instincts but lacks great quick-twitch ability while McMillan diagnoses plays well, takes good angles but isn’t as explosive as you’d hope. Williams could be the home run here, a Vic Beasley-type if he can put it all together.
