Fact or Fiction: Harold Perkins' visit plans should worry the Aggies

1. Michigan is by far the front-runner for 2023 four-star QB Dante Moore.

Gorney’s take: FACT. It’s close with Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State but if coach Jim Harbaugh stays at Michigan - which is expected - then the Wolverines could be tough to beat. Dante Moore told me at the National Combine that his relationship with each head coach is important and the Wolverines have always been a top team to watch. Is it over? No. But I’d bet Michigan has the edge to land one of the best quarterbacks in the 2023 class.

Henschke’s take: FICTION. I'm not ready to call this one over for Michigan just yet. While I agree that the Wolverines are near the top for Moore, I just don't feel confident enough to say definitively that the Wolverines will be the choice for him. However, U-M will continue to be right there for him as the relationship between the offensive coaching staff and Moore is very strong. I don't expect that to change moving forward. The Wolverines could very well be the choice in the future, but I'm just not ready to call them the frontrunner in the present.

2. Texas A&M should be concerned that five-star LB Harold Perkins is planning to visit Florida and LSU.

Harold Perkins
Harold Perkins (Sam Spiegelman)

Gorney’s take: FICTION. This one is going to come down to relationships and Harold Perkins has the best connection with the Texas A&M staff, by far. Yeah, the five-star linebacker is going to visit Florida this weekend and that could change quickly. LSU is pursuing him, too, but I don’t see a flip right now. Perkins was just at the Under Armour game with more than a dozen other Texas A&M commits and while LSU was the dream school growing up, his connection with coach Brian Kelly and that staff just isn’t there yet.

Spiegelman’s take: FACT. The Aggies have long been favorites to keep Perkins in-state and that was made perfectly evident when he pledged to A&M during the All-America Game in Orlando. Perkins, who has not yet signed, quickly set up two SEC official visits. He’s long had interest in the Gators and with a new staff in place, a visit is in the cards. Perkins will also meet with the new LSU staff. A New Orleans native, Perkins has been linked to the Tigers as a possible threat throughout his recruitment and even after Ed Orgeron’s dismissal.

3. Christen Miller’s friendship with Mykel Williams will win out and he’ll pick Georgia.

Christen Miller
Christen Miller (Nick Lucero/Rivals.com)

Gorney’s take: FACT. Ohio State is very much involved here and the rumor was that the Buckeyes could hold the edge. Miami makes things very interesting and he’s going to visit there so coach Mario Cristobal’s pitch could make things even more interesting. But Christen Miller is very close friends with Mykel Williams and my understanding is that bond will be very difficult to break. There was a time that many thought both would go to USC but now with Williams at Georgia, it just makes sense.

Wright’s take: FACT. Miller has a top-five of Ohio State, Georgia, Florida A&M, Oregon and Miami. With the coaching change at Miami, Mario Cristobal’s staff offered Miller as announced on Dec. 23; that’s the big hurdle for Georgia between now and National Signing Day. Miller will announce after his set Jan. 28 official with the Hurricanes. The Bulldogs’ national championship win over Alabama has to help Georgia’s cause. A Twitter post on Oct. 13, seven days before Mykel Williams committed to UGA has kept fans wondering; the message reads: “@MykelW_50 U gotta deal wit me for 4 years twin.”
