LSU, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas were the contenders that Dotson kept in the mix until his announcement. The Pokes were especially in consideration as they were the other program to host Dotson for an official visit this summer.
Out of Duncanville, Dotson presents head coach Rhett Lashlee with a marquee coup on the trail. Dotson notched more than 20 offers in his recruitment and has been one of the major contributors on an elite defense in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex since his sophomore season.
Dotson is a versatile defender that fills multiple roles in the defensive backfield. He especially likes to play downhill and be active in run support. Selling him on staying home and putting on for Dallas was a key pitch from the Mustangs.
"It means a lot for a big-time recruit to stay home," said Dotson. "A lot of people had expected me to leave the state, but I wanted to put on for my city."
A four-star prospect, Dotson becomes the crown jewel of the Mustangs' 2024 haul. SMU has also secured commitments from DFW prospects Jamyri Cauley, Alexander Rodgers and Zach Smith.
"I'm bringing my talent and doing everything that I can to make an impact as a freshman. I'm going to recruit others to join me. We're going to make some moves," Dotson said.
