QB Challenge Finals: Emory Jones

The Rivals Quarterback Challenge Finals Presented by Under Armour will be held Sunday in Baltimore with 12 of the nation’s top signal callers from the 2017 and 2018 classes testing their skill not only against unforgiving immobile targets but also throwing to live receivers in coverage. Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell briefly breaks down each quarterback expected at the event.

Recruiting wrap: Jones has a lead group that includes Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Clemson.

What I like: Jones has a really good frame, he’s tall and looks filled out but has room to add another 20 pounds. His arm strength is solid and he throws well on the run with accuracy. His long ball is also impressive, a tight spiral and on a line but perfectly timed. He has a whip action with his arm that allows him to get velocity on the ball and his ball comes out tight and catchable most of the time.

What I want to see in Baltimore: He wasn’t 100 percent at our camps following a leg injury this season, so I’m hoping to see him further along in the recovery process, especially on the move. His mechanics need a bit of polish as he can elongate his delivery at time and his footwork in the pocket isn’t fluid - he tends to shuffle his feet at time and not get set - so I’d like to see that improve as well.
