QB Challenge Finals: Alex Barker

The Rivals Quarterback Challenge Finals Presented by Under Armour will be Sunday in Baltimore with 12 of the nation’s top signal callers from the 2017 and 2018 classes testing their skill not only against unforgiving immobile targets but also throwing to live receivers in coverage. This week, Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell briefly breaks down each quarterback expected at the event.

Recruiting wrap: Ohio, Youngstown State and Buffalo are the first schools to offer Barker.

What I like: Consistency is the key for Barker as he never rushes things, is very deliberate in his mechanics and slows down the game to remain accurate. He does a good job re-directing and looking off his initial target as he showed in the math problem drill. The lefty throws a nice, soft and catchable football.

What I want to see in Baltimore: I want to see a bit more zip on his passes and a quicker release. He tends to be too deliberate at times and winds up to remain accurate, but we have seen in games that he can get the ball out quickly with a flick of his wrist. He won the regional by taking everything slowly and methodically and making sure he was accurate but lost some velocity on his throws by doing so. In Baltimore I’d like to see the same accuracy with added arm strength and pop.
