QB Challenge finalists: Ty Brock

The Rivals Quarterback Challenge Finals are Sunday, April 24, in Baltimore with 12 of the nation’s top signal-callers from the 2017 and 2018 classes testing their skill not only against unforgiving immobile targets but also throwing to live receivers in coverage. This week, Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell briefly breaks down each quarterback expected at the event.

Recruiting wrap: Brock has offers from Houston, SMU and some smaller schools and covets an offer from Texas A&M, which he would likely jump on.

What I like: Brock is a tall, broad-shouldered quarterback who looks skinny despite weighing 180 pounds and has a ton of room to add muscle and size to his frame. He has an over-the-top delivery for the most part and I love the way he eases into his set and how fluid he is throughout his release. He is a sponge when it comes to picking things up quickly and has clear leadership ability that can be seen even at a camp. His has solid arm strength which will improve as he adds size and strength. I like his rhythm in timing routes.

What I want to see in Baltimore: Brock threw for two days straight in Dallas and, like most who had to throw that much, he showed he can wear down. He is a bit deliberate in his motion and at times can be a tick late delivering the ball, so I’d like to see him tighten that release while remaining fluid. His launch point at times can be wide, which can lead to leading receivers too much, so a more consistent motion would help. He tends to aim the ball when he is slow in his release and is out of sync with his timing, so he’s either very fluid or can look clunky depending on the route.
