Georgia, Alabama still vying for Gibbs

Deangelo Gibbs has done his best to maintain some secrecy when it comes to his recruitment, but heading into his announcement during Sunday's Under Armour All-America Game, it appears to be a clear battle between Alabama and Georgia.

Gray has visit set to Florida

Tony Gray’s recruitment is one of the better kept secrets of all the players that came through registration at Under Armour on Tuesday, with only Florida having secured an official visit date, despite National Signing Day being just about a month away.

Gray said he will visit the Gators on Jan. 20 and intends to take other trips, but hasn’t set anything up with schools like South Carolina and Oklahoma.

The Gators appear to be the team to beat and the school and player would seem to make a nice pairing in terms of need and fit.

Bryant weighing his options

Three-star defensive end Markaviest Bryant, affectionately referred to as “Big Cat,” came ready to deliver some big news on Tuesday, giving some telling comments in terms of his recruitment. All signs appear to be pointing to a battle between Georgia, LSU and Auburn to land him, despite the fact that he listed several schools still in the mix.

Mathis down to Alabama and LSU

During his recruitment, Phidarian Mathis has mentioned several programs but on Tuesday he said his options are now officially narrowed to two schools, LSU and Alabama. That backs up the presumption that many outsiders have had, but Mathis saying it in his own words carries a little more weight.

Sterling down to four

When it comes to Aaron Sterling’s recruitment, he’s done as good of a job as anyone when it comes to keeping things under wraps. On Tuesday he said four schools remain in the mix, Georgia, South Carolina, N.C. State and Tennessee.

Sterling has yet to take any official visits and said he’s hoping to squeeze all four trips in.

Proctor down to three in advance of decision

Four-star Nathan Proctor has narrowed his choices down to Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, and Penn State. The linebacker out of Indian Head (Md.) Lackey will commit at the Under Armour All-America Game on Sunday but still has two official visits planned in January.

Five-star Wilson names top five

Five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson has released his top five – with one major surprise in there.

The Houston Episcopal standout listed Florida State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, LSU and South Florida – yes, the Bulls – as his top five with a busy January ahead. Texas didn't make it.

A&M pledge Tyree Johnson taking trips

Four-star Texas A&M DE commit Tyree Johnson has been committed to the Aggies for a while but took official visits to Rutgers and Maryland after his commitment. Michigan State will host him for an official visit on January 13th and Auburn will likely get an official visit on January 27th. Texas A&M will get their official visit on January 20th. Johnson says he won't flip but will shut down his recruitment after his official visits.

Four-star Dixon down to two

Four-star linebacker Breon Dixon has narrowed his list to two schools in advance of his decision during Sunday’s game, with Louisville and Ole Miss making the cut.

Each school hosted Dixon for an official visit prior to the dead period and Dixon told Rivals.com on Tuesday that he’s still undecided, with even his own mother pressing him for details on where he will end up.

Florida to get visit from Jones

Four-star outside linebacker Levi Jones has one official visit planned and he’s expecting a busy January ahead. Florida will receive a visit from the Austin (Texas) Westlake standout the weekend of Jan. 13 and he’s excited to see how he’d fit in the Gators’ program.

It’s crunch time for Rivals250 linebacker Ellis Brooks. The Richmond (Va.) Benedictine School star has a few more visits lined up in January before announcing a commitment close to Signing Day.

Former Iowa commit Calloway has three leaders

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Chevin Calloway had been committed to Iowa but the four-star cornerback backed off that pledge and now three main contenders have emerged.

The Dallas (Texas) Bishop Dunne standout said at the Under Armour All-America Game media day that Arkansas, Texas and Ole Miss have become the major players in his recruitment. Originally from Pine Bluff, Ark., Calloway said the Razorbacks are a serious contender.

Top three for Davis

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Four-star running back Anthony Davis has already visited Pitt and has trips to Louisville and North Carolina on deck. The group makes up his current top three, but that, it seems, is subject to change should something shake on the offer front.

“I think maybe I might get an Oregon offer,” Davis said on Tuesday. “They seem close.”

Robinson names a leader

Four-star wide receiver James Robinson named Florida as his leader on Tuesday. The Rivals250 prospect says that Alabama is the biggest threat to topple UF, but the Gators are the team to beat for the time being. Oklahoma and Ole Miss are also under consideration. Clemson could become a player should room in its class open down the stretch.

Florida commit Green to take visits

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The only official visit date set in stone for Florida commit Daquon Green is the one you’d expect. The four-star wide receiver is set to tour Gainesville on Jan. 20. From there, however, things are less certain.

Green has other visits in mind. Still, he’s short on dates.

Thorpe, Ford solid, though open to visits

Four-star Penn State commit CJ Thorpe says he is "pretty solid" with the Nittany Lions. He takes his official visit to Happy Valley on Jan. 20. UCLA will get him for an official visit on Jan. 13. He just wants to check out UCLA. Bruins defensive coordinator Tom Bradley has been telling Thorpe that he could start immediately there if he works hard. Michigan has a chance to get him for an official visit right before Signing Day.

Paris Ford is Pittsburgh's longest standing 2017 commitment, but there are some people wondering if he will stick. The Rivals100 defensive back almost took an official visit to Michigan but he changed his mind and stayed home. Ford says he is "really solid" with the Panthers and is excited to start college and help make everybody better.

Meanwhile, five-star Penn State early enrollee Lamont Wade says he is trying to flip Ford to the Nittany Lions. Wade is set to enroll on Jan. 6.

Adams solid with Fighting Irish

Rivals250 Notre Dame LB commit David Adams is solid with the Fighting Irish. He has talked to new defensive coordinator Mike Elko a number of times since he was hired. Adams thinks he's a cool guy and is excited to learn under him.

Henderson still wide open

Former Miami commit C.J. Henderson says he has no leader in his recruitment but will visit Alabama on Jan. 13. He also plans to visit Florida, but has not set a date for a trip to Gainesville at this time. Henderson hopes to announce his commitment on Signing Day or shortly before.

Hainsey says all is well at Notre Dame

Rivals100 offensive lineman Robert Hainsey enrolls at Notre Dame on Jan. 14. He isn't worried about the coaching turnover at Notre Dame and thinks coach Brian Kelly is just doing what he can to improve the team. Hainsey said this recruiting class is very solid and they are all very close.
