The Latest: During his recruitment, Phidarian Mathis has mentioned several programs but on Tuesday he said his options are now officially narrowed to two schools, LSU and Alabama. That backs up the presumption that many outsiders have had, but Mathis saying it in his own words carries a little more weight. Here’s what he had to say about his recruitment.

In His Words:

LSU: “I’ll be taking my official visit Jan. 13. LSU is always talking to me, calling me, making sure we’re staying up on things together. I really like how things have changed with Coach O. The program has more energy and guys love playing for him and that’s what I like.”

Alabama: “I’ll be taking my official visit Jan. 20. It’s a big defense, they’re like a train once they get rolling. They have a lot of great players. I think I would fit in well in their defense. We will see how things go on that visit.”

Rivals Reaction: Things appear to be shaping up for LSU to nab Mathis and keep him in-state. Obviously Alabama remains a viable option, but the Tide are also heavily in the mix for five-star Aubrey Solomon. When it comes down to it, the situation at LSU seems most appealing with the combination of proximity and ability to see the field early. Expect a decision to come shortly after his visit to Alabama.
