IN HIS OWN WORDS

"I just felt like Florida would be a good fit for me because of how they develop players," Hawkins said. "With their track program there, I know I could be a top guy who runs with coach Holloway. It was that but mainly just how wide receiver-based they are at the school. They have a lot of wide receiver coaches so I'll learn a lot of new and different things from each coach. Coach Napier he was a receivers coach at Alabama. Coach Doeker, coach Lucas, and some of the strength and conditioning coaches have coached receivers so I know I'll learn a lot of new and different things at Florida.

"I've been talking with DJ (Lagway) and Myles (Graham) mainly," he said. "They're top guys and they really wanted me there. They're cool people too. Myles was there when I was there for my official visit and we were talking about me going there.

"They definitely treat their players well when it comes to their living situation and facilities," said Hawkins. "They are definitely the top facilities that I've seen."

RIVALS' REACTION

Hawkins has elite speed and the Florida offense could eventually get a lot more explosive with him on the field. With times like a 10.45 100m and 6.70 60m, Hawkins is a threat to score any time he has the ball in his hands. Tipping the scales at just 165-pounds and measuring in at 5-foot-9, Hawkins will need to add mass to his frame if he is expecting to see the field on a consistent basis. Penn State would have loved to reel in the West Virginia native but playing for the Gators was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. Hawkins joins four-star Izaiah Williams as the only two receivers in Florida 2024 recruiting class.
