Mantrez Walker has nearly two years until the second signing day for his class.

The 2025 linebacker from Buford, Ga., also has nearly 20 offers to consider. But Walker recently narrowed his list to four schools and on Saturday he was ready to make his commitment to Michigan.

The Wolverines dipped back into the Southeast for one of the standout linebackers in his class beating out Florida, LSU and Penn State for his services.

It was a close battle.

Walker liked the relationship he was building with Florida coach Billy Napier and that program’s direction. Even though Year 1 was a grind, the Buford standout feels Napier’s plan is being implemented and could make the Gators a real national contender again.

The history and tradition at LSU stood out to him along with coach Brian Kelly’s success in Baton Rouge. Bringing back the “old ways” at LSU is something that stood out to Walker so the Tigers were tough to turn down.

As long as James Franklin is the coach at Penn State, the Nittany Lions are going to be intriguing to Walker but he could only pick one school and it was Michigan.
