Three-Point Stance: Five-star watch, ACC, FutureCast predictions

Rivals national recruiting analyst Adam Friedman has thoughts on the highest-ranked prospects in the East, the ACC team recruiting rankings and issues some new FutureCast predictions.

It's been a busy offseason for Jadyn Davis, the only five-star in the East region right now. The Michigan commit has been all over the country playing in 7-on-7 tournaments and participating in various workouts and camps. Davis has received mostly positive reviews for his play but there are times when his consistency can waver. There's no question he has the tools to make all the throws and he has a high football IQ. Davis was one of the better performers at Steve Clarkson's QB Retreat and he is physically maturing at a pace that should allow him to see the field early in his career.

All five-stars are discussed during the rankings meetings but potential new five-stars get a lot of attention too. One player that is sure to generate debate is Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy defensive end Dylan Stewart. He is currently the No. 2 player in the East region and No. 30 in the Rivals250. Stewart displayed unique versatility and impressive physical development last season but the lack of game film against top end offensive linemen hasn't helped his case thus far. Stewart hasn't participated in any events this offseason but there are a few more weeks to get an update on his development prior to the next rankings update.

Who's No. 1?: Florida State

The Seminoles are holding down the No. 1 spot in the ACC team rankings. They have seven four-star commitments so far, led by top 35 overall prospects Kameron Davis and Landen Thomas. Florida State has the second-highest average stars per commit, just behind Clemson. Watch out for Dabo Swinney and the Tigers on the recruiting trail. They only have eight commitments so far but their average stars per commit is an impressive 3.63.

Biggest surprise: Wake Forest

Dave Clawson and the Demon Deacons are still the No. 2 team in the ACC team rankings. They have an impressive 17 commitments already, which is tied for the most in the entire country. Receiver Ben Grice and linebacker Andrew Hines headline their recruiting class thus far. It could be difficult for Wake Forest to maintain this high ranking as other teams accumulate commitments because the team rankings formula only takes into account a team's top 20 commitments.

Prediction: Florida State finishes with a top 15 class

The last time Florida State finished a recruiting cycle with a top 15 class was in 2018 when it was No. 10. If that feels like a long time for the Seminoles, that's because it is. These last five recruiting classes are an aberration for the Noles considering, prior to this stretch, Florida State had only two recruiting classes since 2002 that weren't in the top 10. Mike Norvell seems to have things moving in the right direction on the field and that should continue to positively impact the recruiting class.

FutureCast prediction: Michigan

Michigan has been prioritizing Chiles for some time and it seems like the Wolverines and their staff have connected with him and his family very well. He's raved about his previous visit to Ann Arbor and he has an official visit set for June 23. Chiles is also scheduled to officially visit Maryland (June 2) and Florida (June 16).

FutureCast prediction: South Carolina

The Gamecocks are the clear favorite for Paylor. He's been publicly calling them his leader for a while and the current South Carolina commits are working hard to recruit him. Paylor has an official visit set for South Carolina on June 23 but he's also taking trips to Clemson (June 2), Maryland (June 9), and NC State (June 16).

FutureCast prediction: Clemson

Staley is a little tougher to read but it seems like Clemson is going to end up with the in-state prospect right now. He'll be back on campus June 2 for his official visit followed by trips to Miami (June 9), Tennessee (June 16), and North Carolina (June 23). Clemson has had success closing on players like Staley in the past and they're working hard to keep his attention.

FutureCast prediction: Michigan

After decommitting from Notre Dame last week, Wafle is already trending toward Michigan. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Ann Arbor on June 9. It will be his second visit to the Michigan campus after taking an unofficial visit there last month. Wafle was committed to Notre Dame for more than a year.

FutureCast prediction: Penn State

Williams expects to take five official visits and has trips locked in with Penn State (June 9), Pittsburgh (June 16) and Syracuse (June 23). Texas A&M and Notre Dame are firmly in the mix as well and it would be surprising if they didn't get Williams on campus for official visits. All that being said, it seems like his connection with Penn State is stronger than with any other school.
