Rivals Rankings Week: States with most players in Rivals250

The updated Rivals250 for the class of 2023 has been released, and many of the usual states known for producing elite talent are at the top again. The South continues to reign supreme, and while the same five states from our last release are at the top there has been some movement within those five.

Although slightly down in the number of players represented from the Lone Star State, Texas leads the pack with 43 prospects in the latest update. It is followed closely by Florida with 41 prospects, new No. 3 Alabama with 22 and Georgia with 19. Louisiana rounds out the top five with 17 prospects in the new Rivals250.

Texas still leads the pack with 43 prospects in the latest Rivals250, but it lost seven players from its total in the previous rankings. Five-star OG TJ Shanahan Jr. takes over the top spot ahead of fellow five-star prospects LB Anthony Hill, SDE David Hicks Jr. and newly minted five-star CB Javian Toviano.

Although Texas has seven fewer players than in the previous rankings release, it still leads the way in Rivals250 newcomers with 11. The most notable newcomer from Texas is CB Jayvon Thomas, who makes his debut as the No. 39 player overall. Aside from the new additions, the biggest riser in the rankings is Baylor QB commit Austin Novosad, who jumped 110 spots to No. 136 overall.

The Sunshine State comes in at No. 2 overall again, but it has closed the gap on Texas with 41 prospects. Florida also has the most five-stars with a total of six, led by No. 2 overall player Cormani McClain and followed by Samuel M'Pemba, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Hykeem Williams and Notre Dame commit Keon Keely.

There are six Rivals250 newcomers from the state, led by Ohio State CB commit Dijon Johnson, who makes his debut at No. 88 overall. The biggest riser from the state is WR William Fowles, who jumped 60 spots to No. 164 overall. Tate has also taken over as the new No. 1 WR in the nation and comes in as the nation's No. 5 player overall.

Alabama has jumped Georgia to become the new No. 3 with 22 prospects in the latest Rivals250. The state continues to lack a five-star prospect, but the number of players that made the cut is up from 20 in our previous release.

There are two Rivals250 newcomers from Alabama in OT Wilkin Formby and Georgia OG commit Ryqueze McElderry. The biggest riser in the state is WDE Keldric Faulk, who jumped 39 spots to No. 53 overall.

The Peach State drops to the fourth spot with 19 players overall in the Rivals250, which is down from the 21 players it had in the previous release. While there are a number of high four-star players like the nation's No. 1 safety Caleb Downs, who will be considered for five-star status in future updates, Georgia is similar to Alabama in that it does not have a five-star player.

There weren't any players from Georgia that made notable jumps in the rankings, but the state does have one newcomer to the latest Rivals250 in SDE TJ Searcy, who makes his debut as the nation's No 233 player.

Louisiana rounds out the top five again with 17 prospects total and the nation's No. 1 overall player in QB Arch Manning. While the number of players Louisiana has represented in the latest rankings update remains the same, the state is down to one five-star player and also down to seven players in the top 100 compared to the 11 Rivals100 players it had in the previous release.

Unlike the previous Rivals250 release, in which Louisiana didn't have any newcomers, the state does have two in the latest update in OT Tyree Adams and WDE Ashley Williams Jr., who debut at No. 147 and No. 250, respectively. The state's biggest riser is S Kylin Jackson who jumped 34 spots to No. 108 overall.
