1. Top player at the running back position: Stacy Gage

Gage tops the running back rankings because he is a phenomenal player, a mix of speed and power, and someone who puts up impressive stats on the field and shows that next-level ability. Every program in the country is coming after him.

The list remains long, but Gage was born in Oklahoma and an offer from the Sooners was definitely a dream come true. He was also at Florida State this summer and then LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Clemson and others are involved.

This is a deep running back group, especially in the Southeast, so it will be crucial Gage continues to produce. But right now he’s solid as the No. 1 back in this class and one ranking spot away from five-star status.

  2. Two teams to watch: Florida, Alabama

Five of the top six running backs in the 2024 class are from the state of Florida in a remarkably deep year for that position, and it’s something Florida will have to capitalize on. The Gators have offered the top of the list, which includes Stacy Gage, former Florida commit Jerrick Gibson and Anthony Carrie, so striking out on all of them would be a big miss.

The same goes for Alabama, which is after many of the same names. Gage is a top target and Carrie recently said his Crimson Tide offer was a “game-changer.” With Alabama’s success in the state of Florida it would be a surprise if the Tide didn’t have more recruiting wins there in 2024.

3. Three players to watch: Jerrick Gibson, Kameron Davis, Tovani Mizell

After playing his sophomore season in Georgia, Gibson is back in Florida and ready to go at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, where he will split backfield roles with Gage. It will be interesting to see both of them in action, and while they bring different traits to the table both are highly talented running backs who have devastating playmaking ability. Florida is trying to get Gibson back in the fold, but Ohio State, Alabama, Texas and others are involved.

Kameron Davis has been committed to Florida State since February of last year and it looks like his pledge is firm as ever. He said Georgia, Western Kentucky and Tennessee State are all trying to flip him, but that doesn’t look like a serious threat at this point so the Seminoles are in good shape there for now.

Tovani Mizell is ranked as the fifth-best running back in the class, and while he doesn’t have the big-time in-state offers yet there are a lot of new schools asking about the West Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman standout. Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Alabama, Clemson, USC and UCLA have all reached out to his coach recently.
