Trenton Gillison rock solid with Spartans

COLUMBUS, OhioMichigan State landed a commitment from Rivals250 tight end Trenton Gillison in January, and more than three months later the central Ohio native is just as excited about that commitment as he was when he made it.

“Coach (Mark) Dantonio, Coach (Jim) Bollman and Coach (Mike) Tressel still have a good connection,” Gillison said. “We call each other every week and me and Coach Bollman text every day, so I am still excited to be a Spartan.”

When he committed to Michigan State Gillison held 15 scholarship offers, but those schools have apparently sensed the chance of swaying him away from the Spartans was slim.

“Honestly, I really don’t get any more attention from any schools,” Gillison said. “That’s cool with me. I am locked in on Michigan State.”

Looking back at his commitment, Gillison discussed the reasons why he made the choice he did and what he foresees for his future in green and white.

“They liked me since I was a freshman and I always felt like I was at home up there,” he said. “I had a real good connection with the coaches and I like how Coach Dantonio goes about his offense. I see that there is going to be a pretty nice opportunity. They do have two 2017 tight ends going up there right now, but in the end I’m going to have to work for a position.”

Michigan State has been able to keep Gillison’s interest high even though the four-star has not been back to East Lansing since making the commitment. He has been playing baseball this spring, but plans to attend the Spartan’s June 17 camp.
