South Carolina has their 2023 quarterback and they didn't have to go far to find him. LaNorris Sellers announced his decision to sign with the Gamecocks on Friday. The Florence (S.C.) South Florence star had been committed to Syracuse since March and was previously committed to Virginia.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

"They want me to help with this turnaround and be a playmaker," Sellers said. "It was the coaches, the people around me, and the other players that are going there. They've been recruiting me heavily. I got to know those guys, met them, and got comfortable with them. I trust those guys.

"Being able to get in touch with my family whenever and just being an hour down the road was big," he said. "If anything happens I can just get in my car and drive home.

"I really felt comfortable with (new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains) after our first conversation," said Sellers. "As soon as he got the job, he texted me and asked to get on the phone with me. We talked as soon as they officially announced him. I like him a lot. He's cool. We talked through everything. He was talking about his background and all the knowledge he has with quarterbacks and offenses. He watched my film and I felt comfortable as soon as we talked.

"Markee (Anderson) and Monteque (Rhames) by far (did the best job recruiting me)," he said. "I played against Monteque and I really just met Markee face to face at the Shrine Bowl. We exchanged numbers and talked a good bit. It played a big role."

RIVALS' REACTION

Sellers has a big time arm and was incredibly productive during his senior season. He threw for just under 3,000 yards while completing 58-percent of his passes and threw 45 touchdowns. Sellers also ran for 1,300 yards and scored 17 rushing touchdowns. In one game this season Sellers scored nine touchdowns (eight passing and one rushing) in just one half.

We like what we saw from him on film but it was also impressive to see what he was able to do in person at the Shrine Bowl. South Carolina is getting a quarterback who should be able to run their new offense well and distribute the ball to their playmakers in the open field. Sellers has a knack for finding the end zone with his arm and with his legs and the Gamecocks are hoping that he'll be able to take their offensive production to the next level. With one more 2023 rankings update in January, it wouldn't be surprising to see Sellers rise up the rankings.
