TEAM ON THE RISE: CLEMSON

It seems all Clemson does when it comes to quarterback recruiting is win, win, win, no matter what. Have a former No. 1 ranked prospect starting at quarterback only entering his sophomore year? Does not matter, because Dabo Swinney and Co. were able to lock down the class of 2020’s No. 1 ranked overall prospect, California quarterback D.J. Uiagelelei in early May just like they locked down Trevor Lawrence in 2018 despite having a young five-star signal caller on the roster. The addition of Uiagalelei occurred during a stretch from April 8 to May 17 that saw five five-stars commit to the Tigers, boosting their 2020 class to the No. 1 spot in the team recruiting rankings.

PROSPECT WHO MADE NOISE: PARKER MCQUARRIE

Few quarterbacks in this 2020 class have had as exciting a spring as New Hampshire product Parker McQuarrie. The 6-foot-7 signal caller made his selection from an impressive offer list on April 3 and committed to the UCLA Bruins. He then went out in a windy and rainy New Jersey Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas in early May and nearly came away with MVP honors from a deep group featuring many of the East Coast’s top 2020 and 2021 quarterbacks. That performance, coupled with consistently strong performances over the last couple years earned McQuarrie a bump up to four-stars and a subsequent climb of seven spots to land in the top 12 of the pro-style quarterback rankings.

PROSPECT TO WATCH: CHUBBA PURDY

Chubba Purdy is a name you will not easily forget, and that name now has four-stars next to it after the Phoenix-area quarterback’s stock took off this spring. He debuts in the position rankings as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class. Purdy received his first scholarship offer in January from UNLV, but his recruitment really took off in March when Power Five offers came in from Louisville, Kansas, Kansas State and Pittsburgh. That offer list has now grown to more than 20 schools and Purdy is arguably the hottest name available at the quarterback position in the 2020 class. He took his first official visit of the process this past weekend to Louisville, but this recruitment could stretch into his senior season.
