Massive news hit the recruiting world on Thursday morning as New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman five-star quarterback Arch Manning committed to Texas over Georgia and Alabama.

Manning makes his pledge fresh off of three official visits this month, with Texas being the last this past weekend. Sources in Austin felt confident coming out of his official trip, which featured Manning meeting with coaches and spending a day with Quinn Ewers.

The confidence was well-placed as this now gives Texas its quarterback commit in the 2023 class in a big way.

Offer: Free trial until 8.10.2022

Manning becomes Texas' eighth commit in the 2023 class and the program's second No. 1 overall prospect after the Longhorns hauled in Vince Young in 2002. 21 years later, Steve Sarkisian brings the No. 1 player back to Austin.

The Texas push for Manning started almost immediately upon Steve Sarkisian's arrival in Austin, as he had already built a foundational relationship with Manning in his time at Alabama.

The Longhorns keyed in on Manning from the start and made him their only offer at the quarterback position in the entire class. The relationship developed as quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee became a vital piece of the recruitment and made multiple trips to Uptown New Orleans to see the third generation player in the first family of quarterbacks.

His official visit swing saw Texas enter the month with the advantage over Georgia and Alabama, and the Longhorns were able to seal off a surging Bulldogs program on its official visit to lock in its biggest commitment in not only over two decades, but arguably ever.

It is expected that Manning will sit at least one season behind Quinn Ewers as he will use his first year in college as a developmental year to make up for the uptick in competition.

In his three years as starter at Newman, Manning has thrown for 6,307 yards and 81 touchdowns while rushing for another 742 yards and 19 touchdowns.

At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, Manning is the No. 1 overall prospect in the country for the class of 2023, according to Rivals. He is the No. 1 recruit from the state of Louisiana and the No. 1 quarterback in the country.
