THE STORYLINE

Georgia just won its first team recruiting rankings title in Rivals.com history dating back to 2002 and the Bulldogs could be setting up well again for the 2019 class.

Kirby Smart and his staff have already landed commitments from two of the top four players in the state of Georgia in five-star receiver Jadon Haselwood and four-star receiver Dominick Blaylock.

Plus, the best news for Georgia fans, is that the state is absolutely loaded with talented prospects for next recruiting cycle and the Bulldogs have already jumped out on a lot of them.

So far, UGA has seven commitments in the 2019 class - all four- and five-stars except for one - and some of them have five-star potential. On National Signing Day, four-star tight end Ryland Goede committed to the Dawgs.

More are expected. Would it be any surprise if Smart turns his focus to five-star defensive end Christopher Hinton, who’s already committed to Michigan? The Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian standout is among many others who could be early priorities for this Georgia class.

The Bulldogs are coming off an historic run to the No. 1 class, which included eight five-star prospects. It almost felt at the end like Georgia could land any player it wanted. That steam seems to be picking up even more into the 2019 class as the Bulldogs look to stay atop the team recruiting rankings.

FIRST TAKE: JAKE REUSE, UGASPORTS.COM

“The Bulldogs are off to a stellar start in 2019, and there's little sign of them slowing anytime soon. With back-to-back impressive classes and an all-time great haul in 2018, recruits far and wide have taken notice of Georgia's approach and success, both on the field and on the trail.

"What really makes Georgia an early favorite for 2019, however, is the availability of the talent in-state. If the Bulldogs are able to shut down the borders in this class, there's no reason why they cannot find themselves at the top of the heap when all is said and done. The class of 2019 is that special and deep in-state, and I don't doubt Kirby Smart has been looking forward to getting his claws into it firmly for some time now. It's what he was brought to Athens to do, and, so far, he's been plenty successful. Expect the same in 2019.”

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

Alabama and Georgia are the two teams to watch. Texas has a chance with the talent that’s in the state of Texas to push up there as well. Georgia and Alabama should be the two teams that could potentially be No. 1 for next year based on the talent that’s in the state.

LSU could also be up there as well, especially if they recruit the state of Texas well. I don’t think Georgia is running away with anything. Alabama had a smaller class this year (19 signees). It didn’t have as much wiggle room, it didn’t take a bunch of kids it could have taken. If it had room to fit 25 guys in the class, you’d see Alabama right up there with Georgia at the top.”
