THE STORYLINE

Randy Masters is a 2022 prospect but his mid-August commitment to Baylor seemed to make all the sense in the world.

The high three-star receiver loves coach Dave Aranda, he has a great relationship with the new coaching staff in Waco, he has friends and former teammates in this Baylor recruiting class and everything seemed to make sense even though it was early in his recruitment process.

The commitment lasted about two months.

Now at Pearland (Texas) Yates, Masters has reopened his recruitment. He once said he would be CeeDee Lamb 2.0 but in a Baylor uniform. That could still very well be the case as the Bears are not expected to back off Masters but many others will not get even more involved.

Recently, Baylor also lost the pledge of high three-star receiver Hal Presley in the 2021 class but the Bears still have a few skilled players at that position remaining.

Even though it’s early in the 2022 class, Baylor is down to one pledge in that group from three-star ATH Kaian Roberts-Day out of Festus, Mo.

LOCAL REACTION

“With 2022 commits, you really never know how things will go because the time between their commitment to their signing is so long. Unless they are of the mindset that a place is for them, then you're at the mercy of the clock. Masters is really talented. But when word got out last week that he had left Shadow Creek, I considered his commitment tenuous. It's a tough loss. But now time is on Baylor's side to find another WR that fits the system.” - Kevin Lonnquist, SicEmSports.com

NATIONAL REACTION

“A 2022 loss doesn’t sting like a 2021 but when you lose two talented receivers in such a short period of time it hurts. Presley was more important and they have time to fill this slot but it’s still a mid-range stinger.” — Mike Farrell, National Recruiting Director

Sting factor: 6
