THE SITUATION

Adams started his high school career in South Carolina but moved across the border to North Carolina when his father Deke was hired as an assistant coach at North Carolina. Despite that obvious connection to the Tar Heels, Adams has visited Clemson several times and named the Tigers with UNC in his top two last month. So where will he end up? We asked our team experts to state the case for their respective programs and let National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell issue a verdict.

THE CASE FOR NORTH CAROLINA

“UNC makes a lot of sense for Adams not just because his father is now UNC's defensive line coach and the family lives near Chapel Hill, but also because he's a perfect fit for Larry Fedora's spread offense. Adams loves that players with his skill set will get a lot of opportunities to make big plays in the system. Also, Adams is a terrific baseball prospect, and he's already been told he can play baseball while on football scholarship. He’s developed a really good relationship with UNC baseball coach Mike Fox. That shouldn't be overlooked.” – Andrew Jones, TarHeelIllustrated.com

THE CASE FOR CLEMSON

“To be clear, there aren’t many cases in recruiting where a son spurns his father if dad’s school really wants him. There’s too much tacit pressure for the kid to go there unless the family sees value in avoiding the risk of his college experience being impacted by the volatility and scrutiny of dad’s job. In that sense, Clemson’s case should be built around what it has to offer in contrast. If Adams – a high school baseball player – is serious about making football a career, then it’s hard to argue about the unrivaled lineage of NFL receivers the Tigers have produced in recent years. There is staff stability – Dabo Swinney’s name isn’t annually floated for multiple coaching vacancies – plus Adams would be surrounded by superior talent, most notably a difference-making quarterback in five-star commitment Trevor Lawrence" – Paul Strelow, TigerIllustrated.com

THE VERDICT

“I think Adams picks North Carolina. Even before his father became a coach for UNC, he seemed to be leaning that way despite some great offers and multiple visits to Clemson. Family is a bond that is hard to break and I can’t imagine him ending up anyplace but where his father coaches. It doesn’t hurt that he feels he will be fed the ball in Fedora’s offense.” – Farrell
