LSUs Isom: From homecoming queen to kicker

Morlan 'Mo' Isom, a women's soccer player at LSU, is trying to walk on to the football team as a kicker.
This is not a publicity stunt.
Isom, a goalie who stands 6 feet tall, has a powerful leg. She once scored on a 90-yard free kick in a soccer game (see video). And she's reported to have kicked a 51-yard field goal on a football practice field.
"People's first presumption about this is that it's a media stunt or some attempt for attention and glory," Isom said in an interview with Gannett Tuesday night. "That couldn't be any farther from the truth. I feel it was a goal God placed in my heart. It's just something I want to do."
Isom, 22, went through a tryout on Tuesday and had another on Thursday.

She told the paper she was great on kickoffs Tuesday - but not so great on field goals. Of course, LSU head coach Les Miles said none of the players did well because of strong winds.
"This was really a bad day for anybody to kick because the wind was just so strong," LSU coach Les Miles said in the report. "But obviously she's got ball skills. She's been around it."
Isom, does not have any eligibility remaining to play soccer, but she is eligible to play one year of football.
If she makes the team, she would not be the first female Division I kicker in NCAA history.
Katie Hnida was the last to do it, kicking two extra points for New Mexico in 2003.

LSU currently has two kickers and a punter on scholarship. Miles told Gannett he would not likely make a decision involving any of the walk-on tryouts until August.
If Isom does make the team, it won't be the first time she's stepped onto the football field on a game day. She was the school's homecoming queen last fall.
She's also a video personality. Check out this episode from her series, "Meaux Vs." - where she takes on the Honey Badger, Tyrann Mathieu, in a series of competitions.
