Syracuse quietly has some of the best defensive backs in the country and they’re reloading at the position thanks to four-star Darian Chestnut. The Camden, N.J. cornerback explained his decision to choose Dino Babers’ team over the likes of Miami, Louisville, Michigan State, and Rutgers.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

“Syracuse has a family environment,” Chestnut said. “I love the coaching staff, what they've done with the players, and it just feels like home. I just feel like it's right.

“I talk to coach White, coach West, and coach Monroe,” he said. “They've been telling me the ins and outs about Syracuse and how it’s the best opportunity for me.

“I’m not going to lie, the dorms are one of the best I've ever seen,” said Chestnut. “It was crazy. I like how everything is close to each other. Of course the dome was amazing.

“They're losing (Andre) Cisco and maybe Trill (Williams) so I could come in and earn my spot,” he said. “Off the field they have a great sports management program and communication program so I definitely could do well off the field.”

RIVALS' REACTION...

Chestnut is a very instinctive defensive back with great ball skills. He should help provide plenty of momentum shifting plays while at Syracuse. The strength and conditioning coaching staff will help him become a more explosive prospect once he arrives on campus and the coaching staff should be able to slide Chestnut into the lineup fairly early in his career. He should find early success as a slot corner or even a safety.
