ORLANDO -- Charlotte has a new head coach, a brand new recruiting class, and now they have their highest profile commitment to date. Running back Durell Robinson announced his commitment to the 49ers and new head coach Biff Poggi during the Under Armour Next All-America Game on Tuesday night. The Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances standout is a former Boston College commit who is very familiar with Poggi from his time as head coach of the St. Frances program.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"Coach Biff is known for turning programs around and I think this is going to be another one of his projects," Robinson said. "We're going to build it up to the point we made it to the College Football Playoffs and win the American. I want to be the and I'd be the first one to start it off. I want to start something and put Charlotte on the map.

"The only way we can make each other better and get to where we want to be is competing and working every day pushing each other," he said. "They've seen that I have that leader in me and they want me to lead this team and I will definitely do that."

RIVALS' REACTION

Robinson is a marquee addition for Charlotte as the new coaching staff looks to elevate the program. New head coach Biff Poggi is bringing in a lot of players who he has connections to from his time as head coach of powerhouse St. Frances Academy but Robinson is the biggest name so far. The running back has an impressive combination of size and speed and he's shown he can consistently catch the ball out of the backfield. Robinson does a good job of seeing running lanes and can make the first defender miss in the open field before picking up big chunks of yards. Don't be surprised if more players from the Baltimore area end up playing at Charlotte over the next few years.
