LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Harold Perkins is a five-star linebacker, one of the best prospects in the state of Texas and was a two-way standout in high school who also shined at running back.

Perkins is a hot commodity. And now he’s committed to Texas A&M.

The Cypress (Texas) Cypress Park standout pledged to the Aggies over LSU and Texas Sunday at the Under Armour All-America Game.

Just another elite prospect in Texas A&M’s loaded recruiting class that also features five-stars Denver Harris, Evan Stewart and Walter Nolen and a host of other high-end four-star prospects.

The Aggies are loading up.

“I feel like they’re not preparing to win anymore, I feel like they’re winning,” Perkins said. “They just need a few more pieces and they’re there. Like I’ve said for a while, that’s going to play a major role in my decision, me playing all over, and I don’t want to stay at just one position.”

His other contenders were real options as well.

LSU was something of a dream school to Perkins, who has family in Louisiana and has driven through Baton Rouge numerous times. But after the coaching change from Ed Orgeron to Brian Kelly, there was limited communication so it wasn’t the same with the Tigers.

Still, LSU was a serious contender to the end.

“I’m not going to lie, I never talked to (Kelly),” Perkins said. “He’s bringing in a lot of veteran (coaches) and I feel like that’s going to help.”

Texas was also a finalist. Coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff made a run and the Longhorns were definitely considered because of an NIL pitch and other factors but the Aggies were going to be tough to beat throughout his recruitment and that’s how it played out.

“What Sark and (Jeff) Banks did at Bama was amazing,” Perkins said. “They’re offensive-minded and they know what they’re doing and they’re bringing in some good defensive coaches to come in and prepare their guys.”
