3. Jaylon Jones, Texas A&M
The skinny: Jones took several unofficial visits during his junior year, including to Texas A&M, Florida, Ohio State, Texas and Baylor. The Longhorns were considered the leader after multiple visits, but it only took one more trip to College Station in February during a Junior Day event that put the Aggies over the top.
Possessing the size of a safety and the skill set of a cornerback, Jones has performed like a veteran since he arrived on campus back in January as an early enrollee.
Farrell’s take: Jones was a big defensive back who could be projected as a cornerback or safety and who closed on the ball very well. He also had excellent instincts and was willing to put his face in the fan in run support. He’s going to be special.
2. Bijan Robinson, Texas
The skinny: Robinson trimmed his long list of top schools down to Texas, Ohio State and USC before committing to the Longhorns during the summer leading up to his senior season. The Buckeyes were considered the leader for a majority of his process leading up to his decision.
While he will likely split carries with Keaontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson, Robinson’s potential will provide him with plenty of opportunities throughout the season. Also capable of adding another spark in the passing game, Robinson had five carries for 38 yards and two receptions for nine yards during Texas’ opening game victory against UTEP.
Farrell’s take: Robinson is not only an elite runner but he’s a great pass-catcher as well and has great speed in the open field. He changes the Texas offense this season, just watch.
1. Bryan Bresee, Clemson
The skinny: Bresee committed to Clemson over Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State, Michigan and Georgia during the spring after his junior season. He claimed that his relationship with the coaching staff is what put the Tigers over the top.
As the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2020, expectations are obviously through the roof for Bresee. And he has not disappointed since his arrival, showcasing the athleticism, strength and maturation that earned him his lofty high school ranking. Already a key member of the Tigers’ defensive line, he totaled two tackles and half a sack during his first game against Wake Forest.
Farrell’s take: Bresee is already starting to Clemson on a deep defensive line and looked like JJ Watt at the high school level. He could play end or tackle and has a non-stop motor with numerous pass rushing moves.
