3. RB Donovan Edwards, Michigan

The skinny: With a returning running attack that was far from explosive in 2020, the Wolverines are hoping that Edwards is their answer. And to this point he has not disappointed. It is likely that Hassan Haskins, the leading return rusher, and Blake Corum will continue to split carries, but Edwards will be in the mix from day one. After that it will be up to him to prove to coach Jim Harbaugh that he is the answer in Michigan’s backfield.

Farrells take: Edwards has the talent to contribute right away and his work ethic is unquestioned. He’s a hard runner between the tackles with vision so he fits the Michigan scheme.

2. WR Agiye Hall, Alabama

The skinny: After the departure of DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, John Metchie has become the unquestioned leader of the wide receiver group in Tuscaloosa. After Metchie though, there are plenty of opportunities to make a statement. This isn’t to say that there is a lack of talent at the position, but it has been Hall who has caught the eye of everyone. That culminated during the spring game when he had four receptions for 72 yards, while using his 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame to showcase his athleticism and toughness.

Farrell’s take: Hall is one of many young and talented receivers on the Alabama roster but his body control and sneaky speed already stuck out and he could be the next great one from Florida.

1. RB Will Shipley, Clemson

The skinny: After years of having the luxury of Travis Etienne in its backfield, Clemson actually has some question marks there. However, that question mark has the potential to be quickly answered by Shipley who has the natural ability to make an immediate impact both on the ground and through the air. While Lyn-J Dixon will be the likely starter in September, and Kobe Pace and fellow freshman Phil Mafah should also get opportunities, it is Shipley who has Death Valley very excited about the future.

Farrell’s take: Shipley has wowed everyone upon his arrival and is living up to his lofty ranking as one of the best all-purpose backs in the country. He will do some damage.
