Michigan was late entering the recruitment of Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central’s Cameron McGrone, but that did not impede the Wolverine’s ability to land the four-star linebacker, who announced his commitment on Monday during a press conference at his high school.
HOW IT HAPPENED
McGrone already had 20 offers when he traveled to Ann Arbor on June 22 to visit the University of Michigan. He left the campus with an offer and shortly thereafter the buzz around this recruitment suggested Michigan was now the team to beat. A top six had been established and his plan a month ago was to take this recruitment into the season and make official visits. Last week, however, McGrone announced he had trimmed his finalists to three and would attend Michigan’s BBQ at the Big House event with a decision to follow two days later.
IN HIS WORDS
"I will be furthering my academic and football career for the next 4-5 years at the University of Michigan."
RIVALS’ REACTION
McGrone is coming off an ACL injury, but has been back in action since the start of the summer and shown well at events like The Opening. He is rangy and athletic for the linebacker position and plays very well in space. Michigan has had success with players from Indianapolis in recent years and could be building itself a nice little pipeline to a city and area that is producing an increasing amount of football talent every year.
