Ask Farrell: Are the Irish being disrespected vs. Bulldogs?

Georgia has quarterback Jake Fromm, one of the best in college football and a potential first-round NFL Draft pick.

The Bulldogs have an extraordinarily talented group of running backs, as Brian Herrien has rushed for three scores and then D’Andre Swift, Zamir White and James Cook have scored two each.

Five-star wide receiver George Pickens has emerged as a big threat in the Bulldogs’ passing attack, and others are emerging as well.

The defense is loaded and is coming off a shutout over Arkansas State. There are future NFL players all over that group.

Through three easy victories, Georgia is outscoring opponents 49.3-7.6

So here comes poor little Notre Dame into Athens this weekend. The Irish looked OK pulling away for a win over Louisville and then pounded New Mexico 66-14 last weekend.

Notre Dame is a 14-point underdog against Georgia and a lot of prognosticators are saying that is not enough, that the Bulldogs are going to take coach Brian Kelly’s team to the woodshed this weekend.

Two years ago, Georgia went to South Bend and sneaked out with a 1-point victory. But people say this year is different, this Georgia team is different and the Bulldogs are playing at home. The public seems to believe in UGA as well, as 66 percent of public bets are on the Bulldogs as two-touchdown favorites.

FARRELL'S TAKE

We ask Rivals National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell if Notre Dame is getting the respect it deserves this weekend and whether he can see a scenario in which the Irish can not only be competitive in this game but possibly come out a winner.

“I don’t see Notre Dame winning the game on the road, but I don’t think it will be the blowout so many people think it will be. Georgia has a ton of weapons and the running game will be especially hard to contain for the Irish, but I think Notre Dame will have some success offensively as well. I’m not saying this will be a shootout or anything, but I think both teams will move the ball and it will come down to who makes more mistakes. I think Georgia wins by a touchdown or 10 points at most, and it’s close into the fourth quarter.”
