HOUSTON, Tex. -- 2018 Atascocita defensive back Alex Morris knows things are getting down to the nitty-gritty when it comes to his recruitment, but he’s been trying keep a level opinion of those still in the race for his commitment.

He’s waiting to reserve final judgement until after the season - after he has a chance to take his official visits. He hasn’t been able to take any to this point in the season, saying that he has to wait until the semester change at his school.

“I’m just trying to stay neutral,” he said. “I’m just trying to stay focused on the season, not trying to edge anywhere yet, but I’ve been talking to a lot of coaches all over the place … I’ve been keeping relationships with everyone that’s offered me.”

So far this season, Atascocita had a stumble against Klein Collins in Week 2, but is 2-1 this season. Morris helped lead the Eagles to the 6A state semifinals last year, but said this season’s team is still coming together.

“Things are going good,” he said. “We’re just still trying to find some players to fill some roles from last year. We had a great season last year, we’re just looking for some guys.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Indiana

“I feel like they’ll have a spot for me,” he said. “They’re really looking at me, talking about me and they seem eager. Looking at that, it’s hard not to edge with them a little bit and go with them … They look like they need players to come in - big timers - and I feel like I can fill that role and be that diamond in the rough.”

Tom Allen was the defensive coordinator before he was the head coach,” he said. “He’s all about defense and Coach (Noah) Joseph, they just have an outstanding defense out there. That’s why it’s tight. I know that if I went there … I’d make big things happen going to that school.”

On Texas State

“They like me a lot down there,” he said. “It feels like home to me down there too. They’re the closest school to me that’s recruiting me, and my parents like it, my grandma likes it. The coaches, I feel like I have a good connection with the coaches so far.”

“I feel like they’re an upcoming program and ready to break-through,” he said. “That’s pretty much what I can say about it - they’re ready. I feel like they’re playing and doing it up.”

On Tulane

“I see a lot of hard work out of that team,” he said. “Just how they prepare for things; I’m staying in touch with them, following the school, and looking forward to what they have in store.”

On the Green Wave being the most recent team to get serious about recruiting him

“They’re making good progress,” he said. “Like I said, I’m trying to keep it neutral, but when I say recently I’m talking like three days ago. But I’ve just keeping in contact with them and knowing out what they want out of me.”

RIVALS REACTION

The schools discussed all appear candidates for official visits at some point, as Morris looks to narrow down his decision. He also mentioned that Louisiana-Monroe and Memphis have been schools significantly involved with him this fall as well. Morris is part of a group of under-appreciated recruits at Atascocita, but has the sort of size and athleticism that is coveted when it comes to bigger safeties.

Morris has had a relatively quiet recruitment thus far, but he’s on pace to not make a commitment until National Signing Day or close to. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him catch one last uptick in interest from a few programs looking to get one last quality defensive back in their class down the stretch.
