WPIAL Finals: Aaron Mathews
Clairton, Pa. has won eight of the last ten WPIAL Championships. This year the Bears were led by Aaron Mathews, who played mostly quarterback and defensive end.
WHAT'S NEXT?: Mathews has an official visit set up to Pittsburgh on January 15 and said he will likely take one to West Virginia too. A decision could be coming soon.
IN HIS WORDS: "Pitt, West Virginia and N.C. State are the main contenders," Mathews said. "Virginia Tech came to one of our practices and if they offered they would be in the mix as well.
"At Pitt you get a lot of support from the fans, the players and the city," he said. "They're definitely my leader. The atmosphere down at West Virginia is amazing. Morgantown is a place I'd love to play. I have to get to know more about N.C. State. I have a couple coaches coming up this week to see me."
RIVALS' REACTION: Mathews would have already committed to Pitt if they were to offer him as a wide receiver. That has opened the door for West Virginia and N.C. State.
