There was some significant movement among the state of Tennessee and their top prospects in the 2024 class in the updated rankings. Skill players on both sides of the ball dominate the talent pool in the Volunteer State - especially at the top.

As expected, SEC programs are heavily involved with the best in Tennessee for the 2024 recruiting cycle. However, top programs from other conferences are also involved and one Big Ten program was able to land a commitment from one of the state's top defenders recently.

We take a look at where things stand with the cream of the crop in the state as we inch closer to fall practice starting and high school games being played.

- Edwin Spillman now claims the No. 1 spot in the state and No. 72 overall in the 2024 class. The four-star just camped at Tennessee, where he's been quite a few times already as his brother, Nate Spillman, is committed to the Vols in the 2023 class. Those facts make it easy to give Tennessee the slight edge among other programs that are in pursuit. However, the younger Spillman has plenty of other top tier programs making a push as he's also made recent trips to Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Louisville.

- Boo Carter has been impressive throughout the spring and summer, jumping up 19 spots in the national rankings and now sitting at No. 75 overall. Like Spillman, Carter also camped at Tennessee before the dead period. He's also taken trips to Nebraska, Michigan State, and Michigan throughout the spring and summer. Most schools like him at defensive back while others like him on offense as a versatile running back.

- Jaylen Thompson is one of the top defensive backs in the state and he also makes plays at wide receiver as well. He checks in at No. 3 in the updated state rankings and No. 186 nationally. The four-star checked out Kentucky and Louisville during the spring and also possesses offers from the likes of Michigan State, Michigan, Nebraska, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and others.

- Mason Curtis is at the No. 4 spot in-state and 219th nationally. The four-star just committed to Michigan during his unofficial with the Wolverines back on June 26th. Michigan assistant Steve Clinkscale offered Curtis back in April during a spring evaluation stop at Ensworth (Tenn.) and the Wolverines followed that up with a great visit in the summer. Expect the four-star to recruit the likes of Kaleb Beasley, Edwin Spillman, and Boo Carter - all of whom he works out with as part of the National Playmakers Academy.

- Kumaro Brown climbed two spots in the latest rankings updates and is now the 5th-best prospect in the state. The talented 6-foot-2, 178-pound prospect recently took part in a 7-on-7 camp at Tennessee, whom he has an offer from. Arkansas and Ole Miss are other SEC programs that have extended early offers. Nebraska and Florida State are others that are making a push as well.

- Brandon Heyward is a tall, lengthy receiver that is rising up the ranks, moving up two spots to claim the No. 6 spot in the state rankings. The four-star has 14 total offers on his resume and was recently back at Tennessee for their camp right before the dead period. Heyward also visited Louisville during the month of June, the Cardinals extended an offer back in April. Purdue, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, and Arkansas are other notable current offers.
