Virginia WR Smith is emerging

Williamsburg (Va.) Lafayette wide receiver Thomas Smith is a name to watch for 2012. The 6-foot-3, 212-pound wideout moved to the region in the past couple years and is already gaining big interest.
"I was actually born in Richmond, my father is in the military, so two years ago we were living in Korea," he said. "I then moved from Philadelphia for one year down to Virginia and I'm going to graduate from Lafayette."

Despite his limited time in the state, colleges are well aware of Smith.
"I've got about 10 schools looking at me, most are from Pennsylvania, Penn State, Temple, Villanova and Pittsburgh," he said. "Richmond is really interested in me and I'm getting interest from Wake Forest, Maryland, Virginia, Liberty and JMU too.
"I really love Texas. I lived there for eight years."
With college interest growing, what does Smith want in a school?
"I'm looking to start, I'm looking to be a true freshmen starter and I want a lot of playing time to hone my skills."
Smith had a breakout season this past year earning all-district honors after hauling in 27 receptions for 558-yards.
"I did pretty well, I did what I had to do, I had a broken hand most of the season, so I played with a cast on it," he said. "I think my size was big for my age, I'm also good at running, but I want to improve my speed more."
