A look at the updated rankings for the 2018 class shows that there are still a large number of players revealing themselves as legitimate prospects heading into the spring. Many of the big changes that took place come in the form of brand-new rankings of players, and most of the moves across the board are minor. Still, there were a few examples of swings up and down within certain positions.

PRO-STYLE QUARTERBACK
CLASS OF 2018 PRO-STYLE QUARTERBACK RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Tanner McKee (Carona, CA) No. 8 to No. 9
NOTABLE DROPPER: Gunnar Holmberg (Wake Forest, NC) No. 19 to Unranked
COMMENTS: McKee climbs just one spot in the rankings, but does so with a bump in his Rivals Rating from 5.8 to 5.9. Holmberg was toward the bottom of his position rank at the end of fall, but was replaced outright by Pennsylvania product Kevin Doyle in the most recent release.
DUAL-THREAT QUARTERBACK
CLASS OF 2018 DUAL-THREAT QUARTERBACK RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Joe Milton (Orlando, FL) Unranked to No. 6
NOTABLE DROPPER: Joey Gatewood (Jacksonville, FL) No. 5 down to No. 7
COMMENTS: The dual-threat quarterback rankings grew in numbers, but produced little in the way of shuffling between players. Gatewood slid behind Louisiana product Justin Rogers and the newly added Milton, who debuts at six. Six quarterbacks were added to the group this time and none fell out of the position rankings.
ALL-PURPOSE BACK
CLASS OF 2018 ALL-PURPOSE BACK RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: La’damian Webb (Opelika, AL) Unranked to No. 8
NOTABLE DROPPER: None
COMMENTS: Five more all-purpose backs were added to expand the position rankings in this release, but Webb is the only player that jumped from the back of the line. The only slides in rank occurred after the insertion of Webb. Johnny Adams was the next-biggest riser going from an unranked player in December to No. 13.
RUNNING BACK
CLASS OF 2018 RUNNING BACK RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Mychale Slahuddin (Washington D.C.) Unranked to No. 10
NOTABLE DROPPER: Kirby Bennett (Las Vegas, NV) No. 9 down to No. 23
COMMENTS: More significant moves across the board can be found at running back in the latest rankings update: Lorenzo Lingard is a new five-star and Fabian Franklin slid eight spots to No. 15. Nine new names joined the list, but only four slipped in front of Bennett, who recently transferred to Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas for his senior season.
WIDE RECEIVER
CLASS OF 2018 WIDE RECEIVER RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Isaah Crocker (Sacramento, CA) Unranked to No. 19
NOTABLE DROPPER: Sean Shaw (Jones, OK) No. 22 down to No. 52
COMMENTS: Crocker has made a name for himself already this spring picking up some big offers and turning in top performances in 7-on-7 events. While there were some other moves between players at the top of the WR rankings, Shaw’s ranking slipped on its own to just outside the top-50. Florida product Kevin Austin also saw a nice climb from No. 71 to No. 24.
TIGHT END
CLASS OF 2018 TIGHT END RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Luke Ford (Carterville, IL) Unranked to No. 20
NOTABLE DROPPER: None
COMMENTS: The tight end rankings expanded by 15 players in the most recent update, but the majority of new players simply joined the group. Ford exploded onto the scene recently with one of the best overall performances by anyone at the Army Underclassmen Combine in January, and has since amassed 17 offers.
OFFENSIVE TACKLE
CLASS OF 2018 OFFENSIVE TACKLE RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: John Campbell (Orlando, FL) Unranked to No. 11
NOTABLE DROPPER: Maxwell Iyama (Murfreesboro, TN) No. 19 down to No. 27
COMMENTS: Campbell is another player that makes his debut high in a position group that saw its numbers increase by 20 players since the last rankings update. Iyama’s slide is a modest one, but he’ll have ample opportunity this spring to move back up. Daniel Faalele (Bradenton, FL) debuted at No. 28, but could be in line for a major jump after this spring.
OFFENSIVE GUARD
CLASS OF 2018 OFFENSIVE GUARD RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Hunter Lotulelei (Salt Lake City, UT) Unranked to No. 10
NOTABLE DROPPER: None
COMMENTS: Lotulelei’s moves over from defensive tackle and is easily the most impactful change to a group that only grew by five players since the end of fall. Texas product Chasen Hines made a nice move from No. 12 to No. 8 with the addition of his fourth star, but no player saw a significant negative move down the list.
CENTER
NOTABLE RISER: Justin Dedich (Temecula, CA) Unranked to No. 2
NOTABLE DROPPER: Travis Spreen (Portland, OR) No. 5 to Unranked
COMMENTS: Dedich’s move to the second spot in a small group is more notable than Spreen dropping out of it. Rivals analysts discussed expanding the rankings to 10 players, which likely would have kept Spreen from falling more than just one-or-two spots. Quintin Wilson (Cincinnati, OH) also debuts as a top-five player at the position in this update.
WEAKSIDE DEFENSIVE END
CLASS OF 2018 WEAKSIDE DEFENSIVE END RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Jordan Davis (Memphis, TN) Unranked to No. 11
NOTABLE DROPPER: Tennessee Pututau (Salt Lake City, UT) No. 10 down to No. 20
COMMENTS: Not only did Davis debut just outside of the top 10, but he did so at a position that expanded its ranks by 10 players. Pututau’s slide down the rankings coincides with losing his fourth star in the most recent rankings update. Eyabi Anoma made a nice move at the top of the rankings after improving his Rivals Rating to 5.9 and climbed from No. 9 to No. 5.
STRONGSIDE DEFENSIVE END
CLASS OF 2018 STRONGSIDE DEFENSIVE ENDS
NOTABLE RISER: Thomas Booker (Baltimore, MD) Unranked to No. 8
NOTABLE DROPPER: None
COMMENTS: Another debut high at a position ranking provides the name for the top upwards mover in Booker. Isaiah Mullens and Justin Ademilola fell six places in the rankings, but that is because of the new names added to the group in the most recent release.
DEFENSIVE TACKLE
CLASS OF 2018 DEFENSIVE TACKLE RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Alim McNeill (Raleigh, NC) Unranked to No. 22
NOTABLE DROPPER: Josh Walker (Carrolton, GA) No. 35 to Unranked
COMMENTS: While many of the debuts at other positions come in higher than McNeill’s, he is the most noteworthy positive change at defensive tackle. Only five players were added to the group in the most recent update, and for the most part, most players didn’t see their rankings change dramatically one way or the other. Walker’s rating as a player didn’t change, but more players have proven worthy of a place in the rankings this time around.
INSIDE LINEBACKER
CLASS OF 2018 INSIDE LINEBACKER RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Ayodele Adeoye (St. Louis, MO) Unranked to No. 8
NOTABLE DROPPER: None
COMMENTS: Adeoye shoots straight into the top-10 with his first appearance in the inside linebacker rankings. Jack Lamb and Blake Barron also made respectable first showings at Nos. 13 and 14 respectively, but otherwise, there wasn’t much in the way of big moves up or down at the position.
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER
CLASS OF 2018 OUTSIDE LINEBACKER RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Payton Wilson (Hillsborough, NC) No. 21 up to No. No. 7
NOTABLE DROPPER: Ovie Oghoufo (Farmington hills, MI) No. 19 down to No. 26
COMMENTS: Outside linebacker had a number of notable changes top-to-bottom and the number of players ranked at the position grew from 35 to 45. Wilson climbed dramatically after bettering his Rivals Rating from 5.7 to 5.9. Adrian Jackson showed up in the OLB rankings just outside of the top 10 after sliding over from safety.
CORNERBACK
CLASS OF 2018 CORNERBACK RANKINGS
NOTABLE RISER: Divaad Wilson (Miami, FL) Unranked to No. 19
NOTABLE DROPPER: Marquis Williams (Coconut Creek, FL) No. 18 down to No. 26
COMMENTS: Wilson’s recruitment has exploded since January and enters the cornerback rankings as a top-20 player at his position in this update. Williams’ drop in the position rankings isn’t severe, but he did fall to a three-star prospect. The 2018 defensive back class as a whole is very strong, and the number of players ranked at cornerback grew from 40 to 55.
SAFETY
NOTABLE RISER: Leon O’Neal (Cypress, TX) Unranked to No. 13
NOTABLE DROPPER: None
COMMENTS: O’Neal is the ideal combination of size and athleticism at the position and it won’t be surprising if he continues to climb not only in the position rankings but Rivals250 as he plays through his senior season. Ten more prospects were ranked in the most recent update, but no prospect fell significantly based on his own performances.
