"I have offers from South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Virginia, Auburn, Illinois, Louisiana State, Maryland, and Virginia Tech," said the 6-foot-3, 184-pound two-way player who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. "I also just got offers from Florida and Penn State."
Does Byrd have a leader?
"I am wide open right now, but the schools that will allow me to play both ways will be the ones that I look at the hardest."
Last season, Byrd had 36 receptions for 537 yards and two touchdowns as a wide receiver. From his safety position, Byrd racked up 92 tackles and two interceptions. Byrd, who is a dangerous return man as well, returned two kickoffs for 100-yard touchdowns.
What does Byrd plan to work on this offseason to prepare himself for college play?
"I have been working with a speed trainer and running track with my high school team. I have been running pulling tires and parachutes, basically anything that will improve my burst."
Byrd currently has a 3.1 GPA and has scored 890 on the SAT. He'll take unofficial visits to Tennessee and Georgia over the next two weekends.
