The transfer portal never stops grinding. When 2020 four-star defensive back Major Burns announced his intentions to enter the portal, one obvious destination, LSU, quickly emerged. However, plenty of other schools are also after the Georgia transfer.

Recruiting: Burns was initially a Texas A&M commit, then committed to LSU after reopening his process. However, a couple of weeks before the early Signing Day he reopened his process again and committed to Georgia after taking a last minute official visit.

At Georgia: Burns played in six games during his true freshman season in Athens, totaling five tackles. He was an early enrollee and saw all of his time as a backup and on special teams.

Potential landing spots: LSU immediately jumped to the forefront after Burns entered the portal, considering he was once committed to the Tigers, is from Baton Rouge and that LSU has a need for secondary depth. Aside from the Tigers, expect Alabama, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Arizona to make major pushes.

Farrell’s Take: Burns has length and talent and he was a 4 star out of high school for a reason but he was inconsistent with his tools which is why he was outside the Rivals250. He's a high ceiling guy because of that length and frame but he will make some head scratching plays as well in a bad way. That being said, he's clearly a Power Five talent with impact potential.

IMPACT METER

The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and manage their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.

1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.

4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.

6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.

9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.

10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
