Top 2017 recruiting one-two punch: Tight End

The class of 2017 is signed and sealed, so as we look back on how programs fared, we thought it would be interesting to rank the best one-two punches at each position.
Today we examine the tight ends.

1. NOTRE DAME
The skinny: The Irish have had a very successful history with tight ends, and that will likely continue with the addition of Wright and Kmet, the Nos. 1 and 3 recruits at the position. It will be interesting to see how the competition develops between the two this summer and in the years to come.
Farrell’s take: These two complement each other well. Wright works more as an inline tight end, but in college, I could see him being a flex option. Kmet works out of the slot often but is so big and such a good blocker, I can see him being an inline guy. Either way, they both bring a lot to the table.
2. ALABAMA
The skinny: With O.J. Howard moving onto the NFL, there may be an opportunity for James, the No. 10 tight end, and Tennison, the No. 15 tight end, to make an early impact in Tuscaloosa.
Farrell’s take: Neither of these guys is close to Howard in athleticism or speed, but James is long and will be a big target with some downfield ability if he adds speed. Tennison, meanwhile, will be the more physical option who can block and be a check-down, chain mover. Either could grow into an offensive lineman with their frames, although Tennison is more likely.
3. STANFORD
The skinny: As with Notre Dame, the Cardinal have established themselves as one of the top tight end programs in the country. Bringing in Parkinson and Fisk should continue this tradition in Palo Alto.
Farrell’s take: Parkinson is a great fit for Stanford and will not only be a reliable check down option but also a downfield threat that can stretch the field. Fisk is no slouch and is a physical kid with good athleticism who will do more work close to the line of scrimmage.
