Bryce Baker will not sign with any team this weekend.
Baker, the No. 78 overall player in the Rivals250 out of Kernersville (NC) East Forsyth High School in North Carolina, originally pledged to Mack Brown and the Tar Heels in the summer leading into his junior season.
After Mack's dismissal last week, LSU and Penn State were among the main teams to make contact with Baker. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions had been chipping away for weeks -- and finally hosted the four-star quarterback on-campus days ahead of National Signing Day.
With uncertainty hovering over Baker's recruitment, the four-star QB will not sign anywhere this week.
"Bryce had an incredible visit to Penn State over the weekend," Baker's father told Rivals.
"The staff showed him lots of love and shared compelling information about why they believe Penn State would be a great fit for him," he continued. "We’ve also had some productive conversations with LSU. That said, Bryce remains committed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a family, we’ll take the next couple of days to carefully consider all options and make the best decision for Bryce and his future. Once that decision is made, we won’t look back."
With East Forsyth still in the midst of a high school playoff run, Baker intends to wait until after the Early Signing Period concludes before locking in a final decision.
"Bryce has decided to push his National Signing Day back by one week to allow the time needed to make the best choice for his future," his father explained. "This process has moved quickly, and we want to ensure Bryce has the time he deserves to make the right decision. Right now, his primary focus is on preparing for Round 4 of the high school football playoffs and leading his team in the pursuit of a state championship."
