Three-star QB JT Shrout excited after Cal offer

JT Shrout landed his first Pac-12 offer last week and the three-star quarterback is definitely thrilled about it.

The Newhall (Calif.) Hart standout might also be patient.

Shrout landed an offer from Cal to go along with ones from Ball State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Montana State, San Jose State and Weber State. It's clearly his biggest offer so far.

Landing an offer from the Golden Bears was huge and Shrout has said playing in the Pac-12 is his dream so Cal definitely has an edge in his recruitment.

“Coach (Marques Tuiasosopo) sent me a text saying he would be coming down to watch me throw,” Shrout said. “He was able to watch me go through all our routes, 7on7 and team offense.

“He came over, shook my hand, said I looked good and said to check my phone after practice. I looked and it said to give coach (Justin) Wilcox a call and we had a good conversation and he extended an offer out to me. It was a dream come true. It is a huge offer for me. I really like the coaching staff that coach Wilcox has put together, and they are really high on my board.”

Cal sounds like it’s in great shape with Shrout, who has looked solid on the 7on7 circuit this offseason, and he’s planning a visit to Berkeley later this month. That could be an important next step.

Some other Pac-12 schools and top programs in the West are showing new interest so the Newhall Hart three-star quarterback does not seem like he’s going to rush a commitment yet.

“I'm going to be patient with the commitment,” Shrout said. “I'm going to be up on a visit to Cal on June 16. Oregon is close and I think Boise State is close as well. So we will see but I will be committing sometime this summer.”
