SAN ANTONIO, Tex. -- Today’s edition discusses the quarterback competition at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the battle for the No. 1 spot in the Rivals100 and the amazing Jim Harbaugh.

Analyzing the Army Bowl QBs

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is upon us, or at least practices are, and the quarterback battle between Ole Miss commitment Shea Patterson and Georgia commitment Jacob Eason has begun. You can talk about potential SEC matchups between the two down the line but, for me, it’s about which one is the top quarterback in the country.

After the first day of practice, it’s not an easy decision. Both quarterbacks struggled at times but also showed they can make every throw as well. Eason is obviously more of a pocket guy who can rifle the ball downfield. He showed off his arm on a couple of occasions, sliding away from the rush and throwing some strikes. Patterson has the more live arm as the ball jumps out of his hand, but he’s more comfortable operating out of the pocket and throws on the run as well as anyone. Eason has the size advantage and sees the field a little better but Patterson can extend the play more and is dangerous as a running threat.

Currently Patterson is No. 3 overall and Eason is No. 6, and both looked like top 10 talents so this will be a crazy debate if this keeps up. And don't forget about Florida commitment Feleipe Franks. He can throw the long ball further than anyone and will likely push into the five-star discussion if he gets a bit more consistent.

Eason and Patterson are on different teams so they will go head-to-head in the game itself, which could be the deciding factor.

Battle for No. 1

Dexter Lawrence

Defensive tackle Rashan Gary was amazing during the Under Armour All-America Game and during the week of practices, setting the bar very high for anyone to surpass him as the No. 1 prospect in the Rivals100. Gary, who is uncommitted but is leaning heavily towards Michigan, is a physical freak who could play defensive end or tackle in college.

But after one day of U.S. Army All-American Bowl practice, Clemson commitment Dexter Lawrence -- the No. 2 player in the Rivals100 -- is showing signs that he could push Gary.

Rivals.com has never had a defensive tackle finish No. 1 in the country in our long history of ranking prospects, and this year we have two guys who could be battling it out.

From a recruiting standpoint, the interesting part here is that Gary is also considering Clemson and could visit the Tigers in late January. While Michigan has the lead and he has a higher comfort level with the coaches, imagine if he fell in love with Clemson and committed there? Lawrence and Gary as a 1-2 punch on the same team would be ridiculous and obviously the best defensive line commit combo in our history. In fact, it would be the best 1-2 punch regardless of any position in our history if Lawrence keeps dominating and stays near the top.

I'm certainly not saying it will happen, but it’s always fun to play 'what if' -- except if you’re a Michigan fan in this case.

Jim Harbaugh is amazing

Jim Harbaugh is the gift that keeps on giving.

The man can certainly subtweet with the best of them as this was clearly a shot at the San Francisco 49ers, who fired head coach Jim Tomsula just one year after replacing Harbaugh in San Francisco.

But here’s what I really want: I want shots fired at Urban Meyer, Mark Dantonio and, heck, even Nick Saban. Let’s do this. It will make college football and Twitter that much more fun.

The man in the khakis has brought so much fun to social media -- from birthday cakes for recruits, to asking a recruit to go to Michigan in the same manner the recruit asked a girl to the prom, to some of his Instagram videos that he makes -- that following him is a joy. We almost don't deserve such greatness.

Imagine if he started taking shots at fellow coaches? That would be epic. Many think Harbaugh is eccentric, or perhaps even a bit off his rocker, but I honestly think he’s crazy like a fox and knows exactly what he’s doing. And, personally, I’m amazed he’s been able to keep his name out of NFL job opening rumors this year, something I thought might hinder recruiting. That won’t last, as he’s too big a name for the talking heads to avoid, but so far so good.

Keep it coming coach.
