The Latest: The offseason has been one of change for Rivals250 linebacker Ayodele Adeoye. First he surprised many by committing to Texas and then in July he made the decision to leave his Missouri high school for IMG Academy in Florida. So how is he enjoying like in the Sunshine State, and when will be back on campus in Austin? Rivals.com caught up with Adeoye to talk about those topics and more.
In His Words: "Since I've committed it’s been a lot of relief on me, as far as my recruiting process is concerned. It’s been good. I’ve been getting a lot of hatred from what Coach Herman said about IMG but I talked to him and I understand where he was coming from."
On where the hatred is coming from: "Other coaches have been mentioning it to me, some coaches back home and some fans and players have mentioned it. It doesn’t bother me, though. I talked to him about it and he said they kind of switched up his words and he apologized for what happened. He said that he recruited me out of Missouri so it really doesn’t have any effect on me.”
On the biggest reason he chose Texas: “For one Todd Orlando recruited my brother at Utah State so we had a relationship. One of the deciding factors in my recruitment was going to be the relationship I had with the coaches. With the recruiting process I kind of thought a lot of coaches were blowing smoke up my butt and were telling me what I wanted to hear but I knew Coach Orlando was a man of his words so what he was saying was legit.”
On his plans to get back on campus: "I haven’t gotten back yet but I’ll be back for the Oklahoma vs. Texas game and probably two other times if my schedule works out like I hope."
On why he transferred to IMG: "I thought it was a better opportunity for me to develop for when I get to Texas. It gives me a chance to play against better competition, which is what I’m going to be seeing in college. So I felt if I came here a little bit earlier it would get my game to where it needs to be."
Rivals Reaction: Adeoye seems happy in his new home at IMG and despite some attempts at negative recruiting from other coaches he's still very happy with his commitment to Texas. It will be worth watching to see if he takes visits to any other schools, but right now his focus seems to be on arriving Austin ready to impress.
