Texas continues making National Signing Day headlines by flipping Rivals250 linebacker Tyanthony Smith from Texas A&M.
The process: After summer officials to Texas A&M and USC, Smith committed to the Aggies on June 30th. Obviously, things have changed at A&M since with Mike Elko in charge, taking over for Jimbo Fisher, who was fired in November. A&M defensive coordinator and linebackers coach DJ Durkin remains on staff and was Smith's main recruiting contact on the staff. However, Steve Sarkisian and Texas never wavered and were able to get Smith on campus for an official visit this past weekend that sealed the deal for the No. 190 player in the country.
What the Longhorns are getting: A well-framed 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker that will be able to bulk up quickly when he get to college. Smith closes on ball-carriers quickly and is a physical tackler that covers a lot of ground sideline-to-sideline that is not afraid to get his nose dirty as a gap-stuffer in the middle or rushing off the edge as well.
