FT. WORTH, Tx. -- Byron Hobbs was one of the state’s most popular names in the weeks leading up to his recent commitment to Texas.

He said that several teams have continued pursuit of him him this spring, most notably Baylor, Tulsa, and Oklahoma State. The quotable outside linebacker also left no doubt in describing what chance those teams have in swaying him off of his commitment following his appearance in the Lone Star Prospects Showcase camp in Fort Worth on Sunday.

“I’m not saying nothing, but let’s be reasonable,” he said in particular reference to Tulsa. “If it was a contest, it would be between Texas, Texas, Texas, and Texas.”

Hobbs also said he plans on being a frequent visitor to campus in the coming months as he continues to build the relationship with the Texas staff.

“I’m going to get up there a lot during the summertime,” he said. “Other than workouts, I don’t have much to do so I’m going to go up there and visit Coach (Tom) Herman and Coach (Todd) Orlando and one of my favorite linebackers Malik (Jefferson) and hang out with him.

“UT fans love me, I’m loving the UT fans." he added. "Austin is weird, which I love, because you know I’m not human, I’m really an alien. Nobody knows it though.”

RIVALS REACTION

Hobbs was the center of attention at Sunday’s camp and his attitude was infectious. He’s been a workhorse this spring, making appearances at all the major camps and showing more and more of his abilities each time out. If he brings as much energy in helping to recruit more players to Texas as he did hyping up fellow campers over the weekend, Herman could have a valuable asset in his recruiting arsenal, as Hobbs made it clear he’s not looking elsewhere.

“Texas is a stone-cold commitment,” he said.
