Texas City junior takes in South Bend

Texas City junior Kris Johnston took in his first unofficial visit, which was an uplifting experience.
On his visit to Notre Dame this weekend, Johnston was physically lifted up by the student section when the Irish scored against Purdue.

"They have that ritual where they lift kids up and down after they score," father Kyle Johnston said. "Some of the female hostesses would come get him to get lifted up. He was nervous at the beginning, but really got into it."
Johnston (6-1, 185-pounds) will be one of the Greater Houston area's top defensive back prospects in 2008, which is a loaded year in the Bayou City.
"We got the first-class treatment," Johnston said. "We saw all of the facilities and he was one of eight kids invited to the game.
"We got to walk with the players as they entered the stadium. It was amazing," he said. "We met with Coach (Charlie) Weis, who spoke to everyone, before we went onto the field for warm ups."
Johnston will be taking trips to Baylor and Oklahoma State this fall, and is also receiving interest from the likes of Duke, Purdue, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech.
"That trip sent chills up my spine," Kris Johnston said. "I realize the opportunity in front of me and what I have to do over the next year."
