Tell has surprise contender

There has been a lot of talk about USC when it comes to Marvell Tell but after a recent visit to Washington State there could be a surprise in store.
The Encino (Calif.) Crespi four-star safety doesn't plan to make his commitment until closer to National Signing Day and this could be post-visit euphoria but Tell seems legitimately interested in the program after visiting Pullman.

"You have to go up there to actually understand what's going on," Tell said. "It's a small, small college town but they're going to be building some really good things soon.
"I talk to Deone Bucannon a lot and he was telling me we're kind of similar. We play the same position and things like that. I really like coach (Mike) Leach and his demeanor. The coaches are really cool. I've been talking to them a lot and I kind of like what's going on up there."
Washington State definitely made an impression on Tell, one of the top safeties at the Pylon Sports 7on7 in Las Vegas this past weekend, but there's no question USC is still a major contender in his recruitment.
The Crespi standout has had extensive talks with new defensive backs coach Keith Heyward and Tell said the Trojans definitely have his high interest.
"Talking to coach Heyward, I like him a lot because he's really detail-oriented," Tell said. "He loves teaching technique and the little things and I think that's really important especially as a DB. USC is definitely in the mix."
The four-star said UCLA, Stanford and a lot of different programs are still in contention for his services. A decision is not expected until after his senior season. The Bruins are one of the schools under serious consideration as well.
"I've been talking to coach (Demetrice) Martin, that's the main recruiter for me over there," Tell said. "Just talking to him every day and we have a pretty good relationship. I know a few guys up there like Tyler Foreman and Devin Lucien."
