STORYLINE

Emory Jones committed to Ohio State more than a year ago but his recruitment is anything but humdrum, especially in the last few months.

The five-star quarterback from Franklin (Ga.) Heard County took a visit to Alabama over the summer and then this past weekend, he was expected to attend the Crimson Tide’s season opener against Florida State in Atlanta.

On top of that, Jones has seemed to develop a strong relationship with new Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

After Jones’ trip to Tuscaloosa this summer, he and his mom jumped on a conference call with a bunch of Ohio State coaches including Urban Meyer as the Buckeyes tried to keep the five-star quarterback locked up and, kind of, stem the encroachment from Alabama in their star prospect’s recruitment.

More than once, Jones has stated his Ohio State pledge is solid, but Alabama does seem to be making in-roads.

So, will Jones stick with his longstanding Ohio State commitment and turn away from the Crimson Tide as things get even more ramped up? Or is the five-star quarterback preparing to flip to the national power and spurn the Buckeyes in these final months of his recruitment?

“Any time that Alabama is coming after a committed prospect, it is something to take note of and respect. But Jones has continued to recruit hard for Ohio State and has become close with many of his classmates. Ohio State is also the program that Jones grew up dreaming of playing for as he idolized Braxton Miller. While there is no doubt there is something intriguing to him about the Alabama program, it looks highly likely that he will take his talents to Columbus on Signing Day. Jones recently commented that he is on track to sign and enroll early with the Buckeyes.”

Second take: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“It seems to be trending that way. He’s had conversations with the Ohio State coaches about it and he’s visited Alabama. The fact is Ohio State is not happy he visited. He was supposed to be in Atlanta for the Alabama-Florida State game. I don’t know which program he would be a better fit. Both programs have quite a few young, talented quarterbacks, so he’s probably going to look at the depth charts and see which ones he feels he can beat out, but it is trending toward Alabama.”
