LOUISVILLE FIRES BOBBY PETRINO: Five realistic candidates | Fans react to Petrino's dismissal | Five programs that benefit | Louisville AD reacts | All eyes on Jeff Brohm

Take Two returns with a daily offering tackling an issue in the college football landscape. Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney lays out the situation and then receives takes from Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell and a local expert from the Rivals.com network of team sites.

THE STORYLINE

Louisville fired coach Bobby Petrino on Saturday after another disasterous performance in a loss to Syracuse on Friday and now all talk turns to Purdue coach Jeff Brohm, who is not only one of the hottest names in coaching circles this season but he has tremendous connections to the Cardinals’ program.

Brohm played at Louisville (Ky.) Trinity. He played for the Cardinals. He has already been an assistant coach at Louisville. Almost all the possible signs in a coaching search are pointing to Brohm being the next coach of the ACC program.

But there is an argument on the other side. There has been some chatter that coaching in the NFL could be a tantalizing proposition.

Plus, he has a pretty sweet setup at Purdue right now where the school is making a bigger investment in football, facilities are much better and recruiting has seen a nice uptick with recent success. He also has a potential star in freshman receiver Rondale Moore.

There is surely a lot of intrigue around Brohm and the Louisville job. But is this situation not as cut-and-dry as some would expect?

FIRST TAKE: HOWIE LINDSEY, CARDINALSPORTS.COM

“All eyes are focused on Brohm. Brohm is a former Louisville quarterback, a Louisville legacy and former Louisville offensive coordinator. He is now in his second season at Purdue. While there may be other candidates in Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra's rolodex, Brohm is the clear cut No. 1 choice according to sources close to the situation. Tyra and the Brohm family have known each other for years, and both have strong ties to Louisville private school, Trinity High. If Louisville doesn't have a deal with Brohm already largely in place, I would be surprised.”

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“It has to be Brohm. He played there, that’s his home, I think he’s Louisville's No. 1 priority and I don’t think the Cardinals would have fired Petrino if they didn’t know they weren’t getting Brohm. He’s a good offensive coach. That’s what is needed in the ACC. You need to be able to score points and he can put up points, so it would be a good hire for them.”
