Syracuse adds LB

The Syracuse Orangemen are loading up on New York State linebackers. First Webster (N.Y.) Schroeder linebacker Mike Stanclik committed and now the Orange have landed a top player from Long Island.
"I committed because Syracuse fit all three things I was looking for in a football program," said Riverhead, N.Y. linebacker Mike Owen. "I liked the graduation rate, the football program and how close to home it was. It was a good fit."

Syracuse offered Owen a few weeks ago. He visited the campus in March and was hoping to become a commitment soon.
"They liked my attitude and my film and I liked the coaches," he said. "I'm still going to camp there this summer and get to know the place better, but I'm convinced I made the right choice."
Owen, a 6-foot-2, 225-pounder, said that Syracuse isn't sure where they'll use him.
"They mentioned running back and linebacker, so I don't know," he said. "I don't care really, I just want to play."
Owen was also being recruited by Boston College, Iowa, Virginia and Wisconsin. Last season Owen was a standout on both sides of the ball. On offense, Owen rushed for close to 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns. On defense, Owen racked up 113 tackles.
