South Carolina sleepers: 10 new names to know in the Palmetto State

Some of the best talent from the state of South Carolina gathered on Sunday at Newberry College for the annual Elite Performance Training Showcase. There were plenty of well-known names, but also plenty of surprise performances as well. Here's a list of the new names we're watching heading into the summer.

Recruiting Wrap: Gregory has early offers from Maryland, North Carolina and N.C. State.

Why we're watching: Obviously Gregory is already on the radar of several college programs, but he continues to improve every time we see him. Byrnes High has a tradition of producing talent and there's no doubt Gregory is well on the path to joining the long line of FBS receivers to come out of the school. It wouldn't be surprising to see in-state schools like Clemson and South Carolina join his offer list soon.

Recruiting Wrap: Thompson has an early offer from East Carolina.

Why we're watching: Thompson is a versatile athlete who looks like he could play a number of positions at the next level but impressed while playing wide receiver. He has excellent hands and can cut on a dime, making him a tough cover for defensive backs. The Pirates won't be his only offer for long.

Recruiting Wrap: Brown has early offers from East Carolina and South Carolina.

Why we're watching: Brown has already caught the attention of the new Gamecocks coaching staff and for good reason. He's extremely quick coming off the ball for a player his size and he looks the type of guy who can be a space eater when it comes to stopping the run as well as an effective rusher against the pass.

Recruiting Wrap: Wilson is waiting on his first offer.

Why we're watching: Wilson has been ranked as a three-star for quite sometime, so he's already been on the radar of the Rivals.com staff. While he's also on the radar of several colleges as well, there hasn't been a program ready to pull the trigger on an offer. Wilson is a former basketball star who has struggled with minor injuries during his football career, but he was healthy at the event and looks like quite a force coming off the edge. It's hard to see schools in need of size and speed off the edge passing on him for much longer.

Recruiting Wrap: Mukuamu is waiting on his first offer.

Why we're watching: Mukuamu is a long, rangy prospect at the safety position that perfectly fits the bill of the new breed of defensive backs. Despite his size he moves very fluidly and was also impressive in coverage. Schools are just getting to know him, but he should have double-digit offers before it's all said and done.

Recruiting Wrap: Teasley is waiting on his first offer.

Why we're watching: Teasley just finished his freshman season but he already plays like a player much older. He showed good flexibility for a player his size and had consistent success during one-on-ones. Daniel has produced his share of talent over the years and Teasley looks like another player to watch from the program.

Recruiting Wrap: Hannon has a host of FCS and FBS offers, with Appalachian State being his most notable to date.

Why we're watching: Hannon worked at guard and tackle and was very impressive, especially when he was going against larger defensive linemen. He has a strong lower body and his solid base allows him to get the leverage his needs to hold his ground. Combine that with excellent footwork and Hannon clearly makes up in skill what he might lack in size.

Recruiting Wrap: Beatty is waiting on his first offer.

Why we're watching: Beatty was one of the most physically impressive prospects in attendance, regardless of position. But it wasn't just his size that turned heads, he was also one of the event's top performers. The lefty has already has some major programs evaluating him and his offer list should start to fill out after he has a chance to throw for schools over the summer.

Recruiting Wrap: White is waiting for his first offer.

Why we're watching: White has played on both sides of the ball during his high school career, but it looks like his future is at defensive back. He was one of the most competitive players at the event and took rep after rep against the camp's best competition. His ball skills from his wide receiver days really help him on defense as well.

Recruiting Wrap: Gray is waiting for his first offer.

Why we're watching: Gray plays in an offense that get the ball in his hands plenty at the high school level, so it's not surprising to see him lighting up a camp setting. He looks like can play out of the slot or play outside at the next level and his versatility should help him when it comes to catching the attention of schools.
