South Carolina's run of in-state flips has continued as the Early Signing Period arrived.
Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks have been active recruiting the state of South Carolina -- for good reason -- and have another big in-state piece staying home as time winded down in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Three-star in-state tight end Mike Tyler flipped his commitment from LSU to the Gamecocks on Wednesday after months of Beamer and this coaching staff continuing to chip away at the local pass-catcher. Tyler committed out-of-state to LSU over the summer over pushes from Duke and West Virginia.
The Gamecocks turned up the heat on the 6-foot-4, 220-pound TE target after offering Tyler weeks into his senior season at Columbia (SC) Hammond School and hosting him and his family on several occasions leading into December's signing window.
"They’re trying to keep guys in-state and they’ve been recruiting me very hard," Tyler told Rivals of the Gamecocks' effort to keep him in-state.
That theme has been present since October.
Since then, the Gamecocks have hosted the three-star TE on four separate visits, including an official visit in October and several action-packed contests inside Williams-Brice Stadium along the way.
South Carolina has been trending in the right direction with Tyler since the weather started to cool down this fall.
"Some of the highlights were both of Josh's (Simon) touchdowns because I like seeing the tight ends eat and also (O'Donnell) Fortune’s pick," Tyler previously said of high points visiting the Gamecocks this season. "His pick had the stadium rocking.
