Size and Speed: Bates stands 6-foot-1, weighs 202 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.57. He benches 310, squats 475, and cleans 230.
Honors: Bates was somewhat overlooked because he was on a team that had several players sign D-I LOI’s. The season of 2003 will be the year that Bates racks up honors.
Statistics: Bates accounted for 90 tackles, 13 sacks, three fumbles caused, one fumble recovery and one pick.
Favorite Colleges: Bates is getting solid attention from Arizona State, Oregon, Fresno State, San Diego State and Colorado State.
Skinny: Bates is a pretty good basketball player and also participated in track, but he quit both sports because he is motivated all his time to concentrate solely on football.
Bates is a lethal hitter who in one game he actually knocked out an opponent’s mouth piece. When you come into Bates’ area it like spending a night in Bates’ Hotel. It’s a scream and it’s painful.
Bates is a hard worker who has Pac10 type of talent. He has the habit of being in the right place at the right time. He is known for making plays when his team needs it most.
Another thing to like about Bates is he team motivated and makes an excellent teammate. He is also an outstanding leader.
What does Bates want in a college?
“I want to major in criminal justice,” Bates said. “So I want to attend a school that has that major and has a reputation for good academics. I would like to play in the Pac10.”
Bates may want to leave Los Angeles for school and may even want to leave the state.
